The Picture Perfect Campaign helps you get the very best out of your TV

Apparently almost half of all television buyers in the UK fail to set up their TV set properly when they get it home. They leave it on the default standard settings (either through laziness or ignorance) and by doing so they end up using more energy than necessary, make their eyes more tired and to make it worse, they spend their time watching a worse picture than if they spent a few moments doing some simple but important tweaks out…

Retro-Fit Electric Wheel Hub turns any ordinary car into a hybrid electric

A team of engineering students and their professor at Middle Tennessee University in the US have come up with a hybrid retro-fit electric kit for any standard car, which they claim can cut fuel consumption in half on city journeys. Unlike other similar concepts, this invention makes no alteration to the vehicle’s existing suspension, brakes or other transmission parts.

StairMax is the world’s first stairclimber for standard wheelchairs

One of the huge problems facing people confined to wheelchairs is how to navigate their way up and down stairs. Until now the only solutions were to install a lift of some sort, either via the staircase or a separate elevator, which is not only hugely expensive, but subject to all sorts of limitations due to space and layout. Now an enterprising German company has come up with an alternative that could change things dramatically.

Tindie is a DIY hardware hacker hobbyist heaven

What’s really great about teh Internets is how easy it is to get exposure to stuff you wouldn’t usually see. Take the wide world of hardware hacking for instance. Clearly populated by incredibly intelligent beings from a distant galaxy, this community has up to now lurked in hidden basements across the world, dreaming up cool new toys and building stuff…just for a laugh. The problem is, we mere mortals have had no way to interact with these exotic creatures, until…

Biolite Stove review – Hands on with the camping stove for gadget lovers

The Biolite Stove caused quite a stir when it was first prototyped back in 2010 and so it should. How many devices can tie together a wood-burning stove with a fan and a USB port? Well the good news is, Biolite have gone into production and are now shipping the stoves. Mine arrived last week and so I’ve been camping out on my deck putting the stove through its paces. Click through for a detailed hands-on video showing it in…

PlayStation Move Racing Wheel wants to give you a more immersive gaming experience

We all want to be more immersed in our video games when we play them. For some, it’s an escape from the real world, for others, it’s a means to relax. It’s the same as those who want to go to the beach, but can only listen to sound of the ocean and hold some sand instead.

Razer Taipan is an ambidextrous gaming mouse

If you love to play video games on your PC, then chances are you have a decent gaming mouse. Most mice on the market are fitted to right hand gamers, with some left-handed versions available as well. The Plugboook gives you extra plug in space without being a nuisance when not in use

If we need an extra plug or two while trying to recharge all of our devices, chances are the go-to device you’ll seek out is a power strip. While it has outlets galore, it’s sort of a pain to store on a regular basis. Even if you specifically have a drawer for things of this nature, you’ll likely open it to find a mess of cords and power strips.

Twizy is the electric motorbike your dad’s been waiting for…

Make no bones about it, the new Twizy from Renault is not a car. Sure it’s got four wheels, a roof, two ‘optional‘ doors and a steering wheel, but it’s definitely not designed to replace the car in our affections. To understand what this new electric vehicle is, you need to take a close look at the specifications and core features and suddenly it all pops into place.

The PC-Aero Elektra One electric plane uses its hanger as a giant charger

Cars are not the only means of transportation getting the electric treatment nowadays. Planes are also being fitted with electric motors, either in hybrid form (where there’s some form of conventional motor backup) or pure electric. Now one innovative German company has come up with a zero carbon footprint solution which is really interesting.

Frank Buchwald makes room lamps, like Ferrari make golf carts

If we had the money, the mansion, the courage and the gaudy style, we’d probably think about buying this Frank Buchwald Type 12 floor lamp. Sure it’s crudely ostentatious, and probably uses far too much precious electricity for the good of the planet, but it’s not really a lamp is it? More a work of art; a sculpture as homage to light. The ironic thing is, if you’re rich enough to drop $10,000 on a lamp, you’re probably too busy to…

Art Glass Radiators – who says heating has to be boring?

For far too long we’ve been conditioned to believe that central heating radiators are white, boring and ugly looking. Check out any heating system which relies on hot water in tubes and you’ll see what we mean. But why should we put up with that kind of stuff in the new millennium? If only someone would come up with a new take on the subject.
