Welcome…

photo Y’all may have noticed a new sig on the Ferret today and a few days ago. Well I’d like to introduce you to Dan Ferris from good old Oz, who I have invited on-board as an ad hoc contributor to the Ferret as and when he feels the urge. He’s been a long time tipster for us, providing some great stuff, and so I felt it was time to recognise his enthusiasm in a more official way. Be nice…

Pop Songs For Kids – happy clappy fun time frolics

My buddy Chris has just released his new Pop Songs For Kids CD and website. It’s great stuff and a fab gift for little tykes (or their parents!). I promised I’d make him a web superstar, and I can’t go back on my word. Oh and that reminds me, longtime Ferret reader Mandyleigh Storm’s new album is out too. You can find it at http://www.sellaband.com/shop/artist/mandyleigh/. Both sites have free MP3 tracks to listen to, so there’s no excuse. This has…

Whoa, we’ve passed our 10,000th post – and I’ve loved every single one…

So, we’ve passed the 10,000th post. Phew, sounds exhausting. I’m pretty proud of the figure, even though it’s not world shattering by some standards. It took me 8 years to get here, and compared with uber bloggers like Peter Rojas at Engadget and Joel Johnson at Boing Boing we’re very much small potato stuff. But tha knows, I were never really interested in mere hugeness, but rather fun-ness, so I’m ecstatic to have reached 10,000 without falling flat on my…

Post #10,000: Greener Gadgets Design Competition Winners

This EnerJar entrant won the recent Core77 Greener Gadgets Award for 2008. It’s an easy build DIY device to measure how much power you’re using. Nice idea, and something we’re probably going to need a lot more of as time passes and oil peakses.  The EnerJar is an easy-to-build, DIY device that accurately measures the power draw of electrical appliances. Sitting between any wall outlet and the appliance (think blowdryer versus laptop), the EnerJar helps users gain an understanding of power…

Dear StumbleUpon Visitor – thanks for dropping by…

Dear StumbleUpon Visitor, just a quick note from us here to say thank you. Thanks for visiting the Red Ferret Journal, we really appreciate it. Thanks for being so orderly. We’re kind of used to social networks sending us mindless hordes of snarky tourists who trample down our lawn and scribble juvenile graffiti wherever they can. Thanks for spending a little time on our site. Our visit length stats reflect the fact that you are much more interested in our…

New blog – shhhhh….

Shhh…I’ve started a new blog. Nothing at all to do with the Ferret, so you’ll probably not be interested. Sort of an ecosociomedico world-shift tipping point huh? type blog. Very worthy. Probably. Maybe. Possibly not. More Metafilter than ‘uffington Post. Right now I’m not looking for readers so much (Ferret regulars will know I tend to start blogs for myself rather than readers), but I was wondering whether to invite contributors who might be into posting links that look at the world from…

Reduced blog posting schedule inevitable says Prince Charles

A report today by The National Royal Vacation Week magazine suggests that bloggers like Prince Charles often take a few days off for a bit of rest and recuperation around the August time frame. “It’s perfectly normal,” exclaimed a tanned and relaxed looking Prince of Wales, “People need to unwind a little. We’re not machines, you know.” None of the Prince’s staff were available for comment by the time of publication.
