Classic Black Desk Phone

The Classic Black Desk Phone. My my, retro is so passe, isn’t it? What, we cracked that joke already? Hmm..OK. So anyway, forget about all the sleek chrome miniaturisation sweeping the globe, the only way to declare your love of the past is to buy one of these repro 1930’s phones and display it prominently next to your iPod dock. The fake push button rotary dial really doesn’t do it for us, although it does have a real bell. $45.00. Designer VoIP Hulger accessories

The new Hulger VoIP Designer Accessories look like they’re going to be quite interesting. It’s a strange business to be in though, isn’t it? Producing throwback retro tech to freshen up our worn out 21st century design rut? Is it a fad?  Bill Amberg and HULGER have collaborated to produce a new range of luxury VoIP and accessory phones. The collection will be available shortly.

Most beautiful retro laptop in the world

Isn’t this the most beautiful retro laptop you’ve ever seen? A morse code key for a trackball, typewriter keys for…er…keys, bit of wood for a space bar and and the bell sounds when you hit the enter key (we think). Ah me, if they made this commercially it would make the Hulger handset seem like McDonalds apple pie. [via boingboing]

Turn turntable, turn.

Nostalgia Wooden Player. It appears that the Chinese have discovered vinyl. And wood…MDF. And cunningly thought about combining the two in totally innovative and yet endearingly retro ways. Crouching needles, hidden speakers?

Retro games.

Full Screen Classic Games. Flash maestro Paul Neave has done a superb job producing a selection of eight classic online video games of yore, including Simon, Space Invaders (full screen, yay!), Frogger and Asteroids. As superb a way to waste your Friday afternoon as any, believe me. A gem. [via Blog Quebecois]  It’s a simple game with simple graphics, but it has one of the most vital assets for any computer game: gameplay. Modern games seem to forget this with their…

The Beatles’ last day.

The Beatles’ Last Photo Shoot. The last time the Fab Four would ever be photographed together. Poignant eh? [Via Growabrain]  At John’s Tittenhurst house. 22 August 1969. The fab four themselves didn’t know that this day will be the last time they’re together ever.

Genus retro digital radio.

The Genus Type-R DAB Radio. Nice to see elegant, timeless design return to the world of digital radio with this little toy. Real walnut facings too, not plastic. £149.95.  MaxxBass – a patented technology increasing bass performance (up to an extra 1.5 octaves in the…

DIY Vintage iPod.

The DIY Vintage iPod Project. Some crafts stand out as creating timeless things of beauty. Others seem a little odd. We’ll leave it to your discretion which one this falls under.  Step two: Take it apart. My radio was held together with four phillips-head screws. After removing them, the case was conveniently held together by plastic tabs that were already built in. This made my life much easier, but it isn’t necessary

Ninja boots.

Ninja Boots. Stop talking about it and become. Ninja. Ninja geek. Geek Ninja. $18.00. Those toes are a bit weird though, eh? Heh.  These shoes hug your foot sock-like for a truly comfortable fit, with rubber soles that grip the ground and allow you to move with much more agility than a normal shoe. Hello? Hello?

Replica Wooden Wall Telephone. Why do I have an inexplicable urge to use one of these rather impractical objects to conduct my 21st century Skype calls? Weird huh? But just think of the joy in waggling the earpiece bracket in an impatient manner whilst chatting on a free conference call to Bangalore. Yes!

Retro Radio-ness.

The Seiko KR866N Retro Clock Radio Flashlight. Actually not sure what it’s called, but who cares? Just sweep your gaze softly and slowly across those deliciously artful curves, caress the resolutely analogue clock face with your pupils and spend an intimate moment with the profusion of angrily fussy dials and knobs. Then tell me it isn’t love, Morwenen. Around $55.00.
