Nokia Jeppe – the new face of home video chat?

The Nokia Jeppe is a remote control video camera on wheels that provides mobile video chat anywhere in the home. At least that’s the theory. At the moment it’s just a concept created by the company’s research labs. They’ve deliberately designed it to resemble a pet to try and break down the technology and make it more accessible. The unit is controlled using a Nokia N800 tablet and contains a two way video camera, a sound sensor and a digital…

Bubble Comment – add a video comment to any web page or post for free

Bubble Comment. This is one of those applications which sounds quite useful. The idea is to let you create a video comment for any site you want. Just supply the URL address of the site, then fire up your webcam and record your video comment. When you’re done you receive a share address to give out so others can view your masterpiece. It’s fascinating tech, but I do wonder just how many people will want to bother with something like this, especially when the videos expire after just…

Graspr.com – instructional videos done with elegance and style

Graspr is a new video service which provides a platform for anyone to upload their ‘how-to’ videos for the world to share. You want to learn how to skateboard backwards singing the French national anthem? Cool. You want to teach people how to fillet macaroni cheese? No problem. There’s a bunch of these sites out there, and we’ve featured a fair few, but what made us sit up and take notice with this one is the beautifully clean design, and…

Busbi Digital Video Camera – point shoot and score…

Busbi Digital Video Camera. Q: When is a Flip Camcorder not a Flip Camcorder? A: When it’s a Busbi instead. A third of the price, complete with an SD memory card slot for infinite storage capacity, a 2 inch LCD screen and works off AA batteries. OK, so it’s USB 1.1 not 2.0 and produces QVGA at 320×240 rather than full VGA, but for £34.95?  If you want to watch all the videos captured, simply USB the Busbi into your computer….

The Periodic Table of Videos – video brings dusty science to life in super charming style

The Periodic Table of Videos is so wonderful it’s not true. Ostensibly an initiative from the University of Nottingham in the UK, it has either deliberately or unwittingly delivered to us all a new superstar in the tradition of the greatest of Internet characters. Professor Martyn Poliakoff, CBE, sir you fit the picture of a Hollywood boffin in to an absolute T, but clearly you’re the real deal. Check out a few of the videos (for example the Iron one (Fe) or even the…

Inner-Live – world wide web television with a difference

Inner-Live.com is a new web television service with a twist. The idea is you don’t just look at the programs, but chat about them in real time too. Hmm…interesting. I’m not sure that text chat and television go together so well, but maybe during the commercial breaks it makes sense? Anyhoo, the chat room box is there for you to use if you want (as well as favouriting a channel, voting et al). The video quality is pretty good, and…

Groupzz up and running properly again…

I’ve just updated my Groupzz music search engine. Yep, bought another ‘off the shelf’ clownsuit script (a mere $19.99 this time!) to replace the broken one, it took 10 minutes to edit and upload. I guess this is the only downside to being a cheapskate ghetto web mogul – stuff breaks. Arf! I still think it’s an interesting experiment though! Oh and did I mention I’ve got a video search engine up as well? Oops, sorry forgot… Tags: groupzz, music+search, clownsuits, online+application, video+search+engine

Bicycle Tutor – bike repair video tutorials

Alex Ramon’s Bicycle Tutor is a new online video tutorial service which offers lots of great videos to help you fix and maintain your bicycle. It’s nicely designed, clear and well indexed, and I can see this becoming a very useful tool indeed for those who perambulate on 2 wheels not 4. I particular like the fact that there’s a community feel to the place, what with the comments and all, as though you’ve entered into a nice old bike shop…

SpotMixer – make your own video ads for free

SpotMixer is a new DIY video advertising service. Select a template, add images, video, music and voiceover, add your contact info and sign-off and save it for YouTube, Adwords or as an MP4 to use anywhere on the web you choose. Creating the ad is free, but you pay for distribution at prices starting at $79.00 for a month. It’s an interesting way to enfranchise small business advertising, although we do wonder whether you’d be better served just using something…

Dangers of being a TV news reporter – warning, news reporting can be hazardous for your health

The Dangers of Being a Television News Reporter. Some painful but funny Friday fun for y’all. I tried not to laugh too much, but wow….some of these are definitely ouchful! […my personal ouch favourite is the poor guy who does a complete 360 flip after being hit by a high speed snow tobogganeer.] Tags: video, dangers+of+tv+reporting

Meet the Casting Directors – so you think all these YouTube celebs are real?

Meet the Casting Directors. It’s Friday, and if you have time, you really should go grab a coffee, kick back with your shoes off and indulge yourself with this oh so funny video trilogy from New York playwright Jeff Whitty. It’s a genius work. Jeff and Jenn Blimpkin, I salute you! [Language most definitely NSFW!] Part Two. Part Three. Tags: meet+the+casting+directors, video, youtube, youtube+celebrities

DIY $5.00 fisheye lens for your camera – roll your own warped photos on the cheap

DIY $5.00 Fisheye Lens. This clever video tutorial runs through the process of making a cheapo fisheye lens using nothing more than a door peephole security devices, some craft foam and PVC pipe. The results are what you’d expect – the images look like you’re looking through the door at a visitor, but hey, it’s very very inexpensive, OK? You can also make a wide angle version using a different model of the peephole. [Thanks Gerry] Tags: diy+fisheye+lens, gadget, video

Vzaar – free video adverts for your eBay listings

Vzaar is a free video player application which you can use to embed videos in your eBay auction listings. It’s an obvious application when you think about it, so should come as no surprise. They’ll need to keep on top of the scalability issues with hosting large numbers of videos, but it’s a decent idea all right. In fact it really sings with some items, like this Eric Clapton guitar. Weird name though, eh (video bazaar?)   Tags: vzaar, video, online+application, ebay

MJPEG Surveillance – cool free motion sensing webcam security program

MJPEG Surveillance. Nice free security webcam program comes with motion sensing technology which starts the recording when it senses movement in any particular area of the room. It can handle multiple cameras and can convert the JPEG file stream into a proper WMV, DivX or MPEG4 video clip. Lots of other features too, including video editing and auto video recycling which records over the oldest videos first (useful for keeping hard disk space under control).  My best motion detection algorithm so…
