Clean Energy Can Make Money – one investor talks about a different way to view sustainability

The idea that green energy isn’t profitable is one that (sadly on many levels) holds many parts of the world back from making real, long lasting changes in manufacturing and energy usage. Ibrahim AlHusseini, a successful investor, says that this concept is bunk and the environment can be profitable.

The 300 Billion Plan to Fight Climate Change – it’s dirt, just dirt

There’s a radical plan to slow down climate change from UN scientists. It’s going to cost $300 billion but it will buy the world 15-20 years to adapt climate neutral technologies. Is it some new technology? Some high priced program? Nope! The plan is simply turn the degraded land back into working soil and create carbon sinks.

A Layer of Glass to Help the Arctic? – scientists think it might help to save the ice

The icecaps are melting and this isn’t good for the planet over all but some scientists think we can help slow down this melting by spreading small glass balls over the ice. This will reflect the heat and encourage more ice growth, in theory.

London Plane Trees On Their Way Out – Australia is replacing them with climate hardy trees

The ubiquitous London plane tree is going to start disappearing from Australian cities as the country makes a move to plant and encourage more species that are hardier to climate change. Although this is an isolated event, the replacing of trees we mean, more locations may find themselves doing the same.

Rising Sea Level Kills Forests – plants are dying after being exposed to seawater due to climate change

Climate change is already effected the coasts of the world. We often talk about the rising sea levels in relation to the people who will be displaced. This is absolutely an issue but even now the rising ocean water is doing massive ecological damage, destroying plants and displacing animals.

Desert Cities Have A Lot to Teach – these locations are masters at water conservation

Climate change is going to mean many changes for humanity, one of which is how we use our water. There will, in all likelihood, be less of it to go around for areas that don’t typically experience drought which begs another question. Are desert cities soon to be on their way out? Well it turns out that hot urban areas are already ahead of the water curve and could teach the rest of the world a thing or two.

More CO2 Does Not Mean Fast Growth – it doesn’t hurt but it’s still not good

There’s more CO2 in the air but plants aren’t growing faster (or larger, sorry apocalyptic comic writers) and the reason for this is that plants, like most things, are complex and simply giving them more CO2 won’t guarantee that they grow quickly, nor would it necessarily be a good thing if they do.

Emissions From Home Heating – heating systems need to be reckoned with to meet goals

Emissions are caused by many, many things in our everyday lives. Some more than others. One of the surprising places we’re creating them? Our household heating. In order to meat carbon goals, the UK needs to address gas use for home heating purposes.
