The 62 Projects to Make with a Dead Computer is actually a book – and a pretty good one at that – but the website also comes with some fun projects and tips in blog format. It’s all very Instructables like, loads of hacker like tips to make useful gear out of rubbish. Take a look at the Floppy Disk IR Camera Hack as an example. It’s definitely worth hanging out here if you’re into this sort of thing. Book…

The SuperBus – The next generation’s coolest ride

Dutch students have come up with a startling innovation in urban transportation – the Superbus. This 16-door vehicle looks more like a super stretch limousine but the resemblance ends there. The project is lead by the first Dutch astronaut Professor Dr. Wubbo Ockels of TU Delft with Dr. Ing. Antonia Terzi formerly of BMW-Williams F1 racing where she was involved engineering and was a senior aerodynamicist and Joris Melkert MSc, an aircraft man who’s also worked on the world’s fastest…

3 Wheel Electric Police Car – Starsky’s original hutch?

In amongst all the hysterical marketing bandied around the world re eco-vehicles, it’s nice to see the Chinese patiently plodding ahead with their electric vehicle strategy. We would, however, love to be a fly on the wall – or a helicopter in the air – during a run-down car chase between this 3 Wheel Electric Police Car and any fleeing robbers. With a top speed of 45 mph and a range of just 90 miles, that would be some riveting prime…

Chocolate Powered Racing Car – vroom, yum…

This £200,000 Chocolate Powered Racing Car really takes the biscuit. No seriously, you know we’ve hit crunch time when this kind of tech makes the front pages. And if they can unwrap something like this, why can’t they produce my flying bar? OK, so it’s a fabulous idea, and not as nuts as it sounds, but apparently the designers are saying the technology won’t see light of day in the mass market for a few years yet. In case it…

White Goat – Office recycling with a twist

This ingenious White Goat machine, made by Japanese company Oriental, turns used office paper into toilet paper. Simply feed shredded paper (or it can shred it for you) into the White Goat (after you’ve removed all the staples!) and it will mix the paper with water and presto – a perfect roll of toilet paper emerges on the other side. The process takes around 30 minutes and 40 sheets of paper to make one roll. Its designers say it will…

9 mm Solar Sensor – awesome tiny self powered computer could be a game changer

This teeny 9mm Solar Sensor is probably the smallest self-powered computer in the world, and it’s totally amazing. The thing contains a full ARM processor, solar cells and a tiny battery, and consumes less power in sleep mode than people generate when they blink their eyes. The researchers are, as you’d expect, initially targeting this marvel at the medical market, but the capacity to keep itself powered up for years on nothing more than body heat, movement or solar exposure, suggests that this thing could end up…
