Google WiFi Secure Access.

Google Secure Access. Not clear whether this works outside of San Francisco, but Google’s just introduced a secure WiFi service. Download the program, fire it up and it will automagically encrypt your data to and fro their servers. Very interesting Lucy, especially since it’s the fruit of a Google engineer’s spare time.   Why did Google develop Google Secure Access? One of our engineers recognized that secure WiFi was virtually non-existent at most locations. As a result, he used his…

Phone sharing.

Intercom Pages. Er…I’m kinda confused about this one. They’re billing it as ‘Free Call Telephone Sharing’, which sounds kind of similar to the phone call timeshare concept from the original Free World Dialup (which I see has now gone all commercial). Download the free software on 30th September and tell us all about it, eh?  XP user can now call anywhere to anywhere planet wide for the cost of a local call or make free calls forever. Intercom Pages is offering…

Keylogger detector.

KL-Detector is a free utility which can detect keylogging activity on your computer. If you’re paranoid, download. Note – an interesting application given on the site is monitoring a flash drive used for remote access to a VPN on 3rd party computers. Hmm….  It works by scanning your local hard disk for any log file created during the monitoring process. Most keyloggers will eventually save the recorded data into a location in the hard disk. KL-Detector will inform you of such log…

Get Foxie.

Foxie. Turn your Internet Explorer browser into a Firefox clone. What’s utterly delicious about this little doozie, is not just the fact that it’s so clearly an attempt to put a mink coat on a pig and call it Marilyn Monroe, but that it completely fails to understand the really massive benefit of Firefox – i.e. the absolutely humongous number of add-on tools and utilities that are so much more than a bit of tabbed browsing and pop up blocking. Pfaff. Still, if you’re still wedded to the pile of…

Local host.

LocalHost. Very interesting Java based Open Source online file sharing application which combines a kind of wiki-like group access and editing facilty with the BitTorrent engine. What’s really funky is that the more popular a file or folder is, the more accessible it is. Still under heavy development by the looks of it (needs a nicer UI) so don’t cuss about the access speeds. Neat and definitely worth a download. [Thanks Tom]  You can change any folder (including the root…
