Crazy Browser – the smallest, fastest loading, full featured web browser in the world

Crazy Browser is the smallest and fastest loading full web browser I’ve come across. Sure there are smaller browsers like the OffbyOne browser, but who needs something that doesn’t support Javascript (thereby ruining most sites on the web today)? I need a tiny (710K) fast (i.e. instant load) browser for those times I just want to search for something or check out a site quickly, and I don’t want to hang around waiting for Firefox/Opera/Chrome to do it’s load up…

Virtual Walkie Talkie – turn your Android phone into a CB radio

Virtual Walkie Talkie is a free Android program which when installed on your phone turns it into the equivalent of a CB radio. The software works over WiFi and features multiple channels and a persistent state, which means it stays on in the background until you deliberately exit the program. I tried it a few days ago and it is strangely just like a Citizen’s Band rig. All that was missing was the ‘breaker, breaker, good buddy’ stuff. The other…

SaveGameBackup – freeware ensures the safety of your precious game saves

SaveGameBackup is a neat little freeware tool for quickly archiving your computer game saves in case of emergency. It’s clearly designed for hard-core gamers, in that you’re not likely to want to use it if you only play Solitaire, but if you are a keen player, this is definitely a useful program. It doesn’t come with an in-built scheduler unfortunately, so you’ll have to use the Windows one, but it’s got an impressive list of over 700 titles that it…

Prey Tracker – awesome open source freeware lets you track your stolen laptop and phone

Prey is an ultra awesome open source freeware program which you can use to track and recover your stolen laptop or mobile phone. You set it up by installing a tiny agent on your computer or phone, and if your device is stolen, you can send it a secret signal which wakes up the software, to start monitoring via GPS or WiFi signal triangulation. The program will also take a snapshot of the thief via the webcam, grab a screenshot of their…

Dolphin Browser – free Android browser really shines

I’ve been looking for a good all round web browser for Android mobile phones for a while. The default version is pretty limited in functionality, and Opera is frankly a bit of a pain to use. Which is why I’m delighted to report that the free Dolphin Browser is a very cool way to access the web on your Android smartphone, and should be on top of your list of apps to check out. There are two versions, the standard…

WinFaceOff – freeware wallpaper changer turns your computer into a digital photo frame

WinFaceOff is a freeware program which automatically changes the wallpaper on your computer at user customisable intervals. What’s cool is the fact that you can point it at a folder full of your fave photos and have them automagically used as desktop wallpapers, with stretch to screen and all that loveliness. The program doesn’t need any installation, is super fast, works with all versions of Windows and can also be set to play music in the background. It’s a cool…

JQuery Lightbox – freeware creates cool online photo galleries

JQuery Lightbox is a freeware program designed to let you make nice custom online photo galleries and web albums. Sure you can use Flickr or Picassa or any of the free consumer services to do similar, but if you want fine grained and total control over the result, then this is a good option to try. You will need to understand web server tech to make this work though, so unless you’re comfortable with FTP and inserting Javascript into HTML pages,…

USB Flash Copy – freeware backs up your flash drive on the fly

USB Flash Copy is a freeware program which copies the entire contents of a USB flash drive to your hard disk automatically when you insert the key into the USB port. You’ll need to buy a license if you want it to do the job without onscreen prompts, but the basic version looks useful enough without. Oh and you get the option to retain old versions of files, if newer updates are copied across.  USBFlashCopy is a small Windows utility to back…

Cloudmark DesktopOne – freeware anti spam program keeps your inbox clear

Cloudmark DesktopOne is a free anti-spam program which hooks into your email client to block spam messages before they hit your eyes. The free version is geared towards a single email account, while the Pro version lets you manage multiple accounts from one window. Funnily enough, I’m finding that it’s not spam so much, but ‘ham’ that’s causing me grief nowadays. That’s the constant flood of email newsletters and notifications from the online services I’ve signed up to. I’m starting…
