It’s a fact of life that no matter how cool or useful the technology, or how good looking the design, we all want more. Take music headsets for instance. These little marvels manage to convert digital signals from our mobile phones and MP3 players into lush sounding musical tones, while sitting beautifully snuggly in our ear. Yet despite their excellence, we still want more. Specifically we don’t want wires, particularly cables tethering us to the player source.

Theft Recovery Microchip lets you ‘chip’ your items to aid recovery after loss or theft
Tucking a microchip into a beloved pet is now a common form of identification across Europe and America. The tiny electronic tags are inserted into the fold of the neck where they can be accessed by generic scanners to deliver information about owners, treatment history and any other relevant facts. The success of the technology has apparently spurred on some enterprising folk to develop the same thing for ordinary non-living products, which is definitely an interesting and bold extension of the idea.

The fact that there’s a ton of programs out there to improve the performance of Windows computers says a lot about the resilience of the modern PC. As we all know, using a Windows machine is rather like running a marathon. Sooner or later your computer hits a performance wall, the speed drops dramatically and you end up scanning the adverts for a replacement machine in desperation. But often there’s no need to upgrade, all you need is a tune up…a…

We all wish that our house would be completely automated. Things like lights turning on and off without us having to touch a thing, and a pot of coffee being finished by the time we hit the kitchen in the morning would make us happy. However, it’s quite expensive to get your home to that level of automation, so why not settle for a lesser, but equally suitable option?

Have you ever wished that you were Iron Man? Surely you’ve at least tossed the idea around in your head before, as being both a genius and a super hero is kind of awesome. While there are some really amazing cosplays out there of the awesome mech suit Tony Stark has, none of us have quite figured out how to make an arc reactor to give it that oomph just yet.

You’ve managed to make it through the whole day without charging your phone (woo!). On your way home, you’re listening to your favorite tunes and messaging your friends, when suddenly, it dies. Now you’re stuck with a brick until you can make it home to an outlet.

Why do we all have so much trouble sleeping? Is it because we’re hyper-wired by the stress of the day? Or is it all the caffeine we ingest at various times? Whatever the reason, what’s good news for the pharmacies is not good news for our bodies, and so anything that promises to help us nod off at bedtimes has got to be a good thing, right?

What’s really great about teh Internets is how easy it is to get exposure to stuff you wouldn’t usually see. Take the wide world of hardware hacking for instance. Clearly populated by incredibly intelligent beings from a distant galaxy, this community has up to now lurked in hidden basements across the world, dreaming up cool new toys and building stuff…just for a laugh. The problem is, we mere mortals have had no way to interact with these exotic creatures, until…

While I can’t say I’ve had the pleasure of shaving my face in the shower (as I don’t have an extensive amount of facial hair), I’ve heard that this is a prime place for men to deal with this sort of grooming. However, it would be wise to have a sort of reflective surface to see what you’re doing with a razor so close to your face. A big issue would be condensation, as a steamy shower is definitely going…
Read MoreFlyebaby might actually make air travel comfortable
Traveling on an airplane is not exactly a relaxing experience. Being stuck next to loud children, or having a seat that doesn’t recline on a long flight can make things rather excruciating. If you happen to also have a baby, then your trip is going to be an even more unpleasant one.

If you are big on recording video or taking pictures on a regular basis, then you likely want to do one or both while driving. Needless to say, this is not a smart idea, unless you’re in the passenger seat. However, if you should be stuck in a situation where you are alone, but want to film whilst the vehicle is in motion, you may need to find an alternative route.

The Biolite Stove caused quite a stir when it was first prototyped back in 2010 and so it should. How many devices can tie together a wood-burning stove with a fan and a USB port? Well the good news is, Biolite have gone into production and are now shipping the stoves. Mine arrived last week and so I’ve been camping out on my deck putting the stove through its paces. Click through for a detailed hands-on video showing it in…

Forget about fancy kennels and heated bed rolls, sometimes it’s the most basic accessory that shows your pooch how much you care. Sure they’ll thank you for lining their playpen with Columbian tree bark, and there’s no question they’ll love the aerated, LED lit sparkling drinking fountain, but deep down they’ll know that you’re not doing everything you can to improve their lives.

One of the great things about an open development platform like Android is the free reign it gives independent developers to let rip with their skills and imagination. No sooner is a cool new feature announced from a major player like HTC or Samsung, than you’ll find coders across the world trying to deliver the same utility for other phone users on the platform.

When the history books are finally written about the evolution of music in century 21, the major feature that will hold the historians spellbound is how swiftly popular music moved from being a strictly controlled, media manipulated fiefdom, to a digital free for all, curated by the global crowd. The other surprise is likely to be how much influence YouTube videos had on this shift in consumption.
