Utterz – simultaneously post video, audio, text and images to multiple social sites

Utterz

Utterz is a new service (beta) which lets you distribute your news and views in a variety of different media formats across all the major social networking and blog platforms. What’s more it’s totally integrated with the mobile phone network, so you can send stuff from your phone as well as post directly from the site.

The reason I like it is the ease of set up. There’s not a lot of configuring to do, just set up an account, define your connections (i.e. the places you want your posts to end up, like Flickr, YouTube, Blogger, Facebook or your blog etc etc), input your mobile number if that’s your main tool, and off you go. To upload an audio post, just call a number and speak your piece, and any video or photos you upload within 10 minutes either side of the audio will be combined together as one single post.

The interface is a little quirky, but maybe that’s OK, since most of the work is done via phone anyway, and it’s usable enough to get around. I’d like to see a little more segmentation and clarity between the different sections of the site – e.g. it’s hard to know when you’ve moved from your own profile section into another part of the site – but as I said the UI is adequate enough.

The true beauty of the system is the widget support which lets you embed your stream of consciousness into any site or service you want. You have a small choice of widget sizes, including a sidebar version which looks useful, and a choice of various colour schemes, but again it should be enough to get you publishing to the world quickly and easily. Just embed the code into your page or post as I’ve done in my sidebar on the right and you’re good to go. Moreover once you’ve embedded the player, you can serve whatever you want to it, text, video, audio or images. Nice and simple.

I can see this tool as a great for delivering roving reports on events, or keeping your audience up to date with developments on a particular topic. Or indeed just shooting the breeze in a podcast mode. In some ways it offers a similar kind of functionality to CoveritLive, but on a more basic level. And a sidebar widget means that you can keep posting stuff to your blog continually as the mood grabs you.

The performance of the site is OK for a beta version, although I found some of the video to be a little choppy, but maybe that’s just my connection. Overall, I found this to be a nice package, quirky yes, but usable. And international too, which is a big plus point. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the market for some way to add more value to your blog or social network.

Utterz is the first way you can instantly blog your experiences, thoughts and ideas, anywhere, using all the capabilities of your mobile phone. Utterz mashes together the voice, video, pictures, and text you call or send in and creates an ‘Utter’ that can immediately update your existing web pages on sites like Blogger, WordPress, Facebook, LiveJournal, MySpace and more.

  • Their website isn’t the only thing in Beta.
Check out their logo: “Be Herd”!!

Do you think that’s their opinion of their soon-to-be user-base?
Or am I being too cynical of bad spelling?
