Solar Powered Pool Heating Rings – saving the planet, one poolside drama at a time

Solarpoweredpoolheatingrings

These Solar Powered Pool Heating Rings promise to raise the temperature of an average sized swimming pool by 3 to 4 degrees F a week. They stay together via magnet clasps and also help prevent water evaporation during the day, which is a double bonus, no? It’s all sounding good from here. $69.95 a set (hint: you’re probably going to need 4 sets or more for a reasonable sized rig)

These are the energy-efficient floating rings that gather and amplify sunlight to raise the temperature of an average-sized pool by 3°-4° F per week when covering just 70% of the surface, without the energy requirements of electrical heaters or the effort required to place, remove, and store traditional tarp covers. Rated at 21,000 BTUs, each ring also acts as a partial barrier, helping to slow evaporation of water and chemicals, in addition to reducing heat loss at night.

  • How the hell do they amplify sunlight, or do they mean “amplify the effects” of sunlight. If so, how the hell do they “amplify the effect” of sunlight.

Or do they just get hot in the sun and thus heat up the water? If so, shouldn’t they be black instead of all colourful and stuff?

I feel a headache coming on.

  • they simply allow sunlight to pass thru the clear rings allowing it to transmit its heat to the pools water while also reducing the loss of energy (heat) by reducing the evaporation of water off the surface which is where you lose about 90 % of the heat. but truthfully a good solar bubble type cover will work better since it effectively covers the entire surface area and can raise the pools temperature by 10 degrees or more

  • Neat concept, but HS is a pricey bunch.

I’ll bet Wallmart or some lower-end retailer could crank these out for 1/4 the price.

I’d be right in line if they did….
