Imgares – cool free image processor is fast, versatile and useful

Imgares is a small free image processor which comes with some very cool features. First up, it’s fast. Very fast. It zips through even large sized photo images, which is great when you’re just trying to do something quick and dirty. Also it has some fab tweaks, like instant rotate and resize, as well as colour, background and text editors which make it a snap to quickly adjust multiple photos on the fly for upload or email. There’s a fast batch image format change function as well, so you can swap from JPG to PNG or whatever as part of the processing stage.

The icing on the cake is the fact that you can also create AVI slideshows and add your audio commentary too. As you’d expect you pay a price in file size if you add a lot of photos, audio and transitions – reckon on at least 20 MB a minute for a simple show with 800×600 images – but it’s still a super useful add-on to the program. Here’s a small 11 image slideshow (23MB) as a demo. It won’t run in VLC for some reason, but Quicktime and Media Player are fine.

It’s a really simple program, and may appear a little basic at first glance, but it does its job superbly, and once you start to play with it, you’ll realise just how cool the interface is. It just works. Lovely little utility, at a fabulous price.
