The Knowmore.org Firefox Extension provides a snapshot view of a company’s environmental and social impact via the use of icons delivered alongside search results, directly on sites or via the Amazon product catalogue. It uses a simple device of using green or red icons to depict the company’s stance on business ethics, worker rights, environmental issues etc, and it’s something which could help persuade some of the larger conglomerates to improve their attitudes if enough people used and reacted to the results.
The plugin features 30+ companies at present, out of 200 registered with the organisation so far, so it’s clearly a work in progress, but very worthy nonetheless.
Now, when you search for brands, companies, and products on your favorite search engines — Knowmore’s intuitive issue specific icons will show up next to the relevant company’s URL in search results. Note: The icons represent: Worker Rights, Human Rights, Political Influence, Environmental Impact, & Business Ethics. If the corresponding icon is red, this means there are significant areas of concern, if it is yellow this means the company is neutral, if green the company has been given a positive rating.
