Greenest Host – world’s first 100% solar powered web hosting service

Greenesthost

Greenest Host is the world’s first 100% solar powered web hosting service. That’s right, they’ve located the facility in the desert sunshine of Southern California, and supply all the juice they need from an array of solar panels situated on top of a rusting Ford Mustang in the parking lot. Or something. Fabulous idea, and although they’re aiming at the more business end of web hosting, their prices are not that expensive. Great initiative and one that deserves support and replication far and wide. Go, green, go.

We’ve partnered with the best solar power data center experts on earth to make sure that the natural energy of the sun runs our servers, not energy credits. Our servers are located at a state-of-the-art data center just 90 miles northeast of San Diego in Romoland, California — one of the sunniest year-round areas in North America. The center is powered by 120 solar panels harnessing the year-round sun which generates an excess of power, day and night — 365 days a year. It’s more than enough to power our servers without fail. Our servers are new AMD Opteron powered servers which are faster, use sixty percent less energy and generate fifty percent less heat than previously available servers.

  • Oh thanks very much Michel, I stand corrected perhaps. Great to see more than one company with their eye on the future too, eh? :-)
