YouRipper – freeware tool lets you download and save videos from your favourite video sites

Youripper

YouRipper is a free software utility which lets you download and save videos from video sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, Google Video et al. It’s kind of unusual in that it embeds itself into the browser title bar as an expandable icon. When you want to download, just click on the icon and copy/paste the video URL into the address box which pops open. The footage is then downloaded as a Flash movie, so you’ll need a Flash player on hand to play the stuff back. Or a video converter. Enjoy!

 YouRipper provides the end-user with the capability to save video files from these sites to your hard-drive as an industry standard Flash Movie (*.flv). Form here you can view the videos in your chosen Flash Movie Player or, copyright permitting, incorporate it into your own projects or online services.

  • I’ve been using the firefox extension ‘Downloadhelper’ for months which does exactly this.

  • This javascript will cause a link to appear which can then be used to download a higher quality MP4 from YouTube:
    javascript:if%20(document.getElementById(‘download-youtube-video’)==null%20&&%20!!(document.location.href.match(/http:\/\/[a-zA-Z\.]*youtube\.com\/watch/)))%20{var%20yt_mp4_path=’http://www.youtube.com/get_video?fmt=18&video_id=’+swfArgs[‘video_id’]+’&t=’+swfArgs[‘t’];%20var%20div_embed=document.getElementById(‘watch-embed-div’);div_embed.innerHTML=div_embed.innerHTML+’%20Download%20as%20MP4%20(right-click%20and%20select%20Save%20’+%20(navigator.appName==’Microsoft%20Internet%20Explorer’?’target’:’link’)%20+’%20as)’;}void(0);
