Xero – the world’s easiest accounting system?

Xero

They’re boldly billing Xero as the world’s easiest accounting system, and we’re happy to play along for a bit. It’s pretty as a button, comes with oodles of nice charts and graphs, and has an Ajax enhanced UI that looks like it really makes sense. It’s designed for UK and New Zealand small businesses (a full international version arrives next year) and costs £29.00 a month + VAT which also includes a nice little ‘partner’ feature to help small entrepreneurs find an accountant to help out. Oh and it’s won awards, so there, it must be good.

With Xero, it’s quick and easy to do daily bank reconciliations to keep your accounts accurate and up–to–date. Your bank statements can be automatically imported daily by Xero and then matched to transactions you have entered.

  • I was looking at a map the other day and there was this huge island just to the left of New Zealand. I wonder why they didn’t include that in the trial version?

  • Hi DTM,

We refer to that island as the West Island from NZ.

Australian tax creates a lot of extra requirements like Business Activity Summary (BAS) reports. UK tax (VAT) is much more similar to NZ, our first market – so we did the UK first.

Not long until our Oz version though.

  • Hi Rod,

Ah yes Australian Tax Law. :(

Thanks for the reply and I look forward to an Oz, whoops, West New Zealand version. It’s got to be simpler than the tax software the Oz government puts out and if you can make it work on Macs, you’ll get a whole bunch of converts. The government one still doesn’t work for them.

    Cheers
    DTM.

  • Ooo I see Xero now has gone Global and has an OZ specific version.. Gonna have to trial it out!
