The new Hotel Visualiser from hotels.com uses the image psychology tech from Imagini that we first came across a while back, to build a picture of the kind of place you’d like to stay on vacation. Now choosing your holiday spot via photographs rather than long descriptions may not be to everyone’s taste, but it has a certain logic about it. And it’s interesting to see the technology actually find a real world use which is more than just finding lifestyle partners.
At the end of the day though, I’ve got to say the whole thing comes across as a rather cutesy way to market a new travel site theme, but maybe I’m being a bit cynical. And your mileage may vary of course.
I thought it was a great idea when I started clicking on the images, being able to visually choose what you like was great. However, at the very end I had to choose a destination city. It would be much more useful for what I wanted if it then suggested the destinations that matched what you were looking for.
