Just Meet – online virtual reality telepresence meeting room for rent

Justmeet

Just Meet is a virtual reality telepresence meeting room where up to 16 people can gather to chat, crack jokes, drink virtual Mountain Dew and watch Powerpoint slides of their last holiday. Or something. It’s kind of weird actually, in a ‘eeyew, who did the interior design on the roomscape?’ kind of way, but in these lean and unsettling times there may well be a growing population of people abandoning long-haul flight costs in favour of this rough and ready £15.00 an hour option.

The controls are pretty easy to operate and you do get a more immersive feeling of actually being in a meeting than with mere video conferencing, and the Powerpoint stuff is cool, but I can’t help feeling that the world would probably be a better place without any meetings at all.

JustMeet provides the same experience at a tiny fraction of the cost, by placing all users in a 3D virtual telepresence room. We allow everyone to scan the room, using their mouse to look left or right. The other users can see where you are looking as your video image turns in that direction. A major aspect of our system is that we have chosen to ensure that if more than one person is talking at the same time, they can all be heard and understood. This allows for the effective transfer of meeting control, as would happen in a live meeting, and ensures that no-one’s comments are lost.

  • I won't name and shame them, but a professional design firm put the room model together for us! There is another option too, "traditional", which shows a nice, wood-panelled room instead of the "modern" design shown here – and is my personal favourite.
