Spoonflower – design your own fabric

spoonflower

Spoonflower is a new webservice (is that a new word?) and etsy community that allows you to design your own patterned fabric and have it printed and delivered. It’s in beta mode at the moment and not everything’s been ironed out but it is up and running. The idea is you design a swatch or a repeating pattern that is printed across the fabric. You choose how much you want printed and they make it and ship it out to you.

Your pattern is printed onto high quality, 100% cotton and you can order in sizes ranging from an 8″8″ swatch for $5 to a 42″36″ yard for $18. You can explore what other people are doing as well and future versions of Spoonflower will allow you to buy other people’s designs but at present you can only sow sew what you reap. Very nice idea.

Spoonflower prints on extremely high-quality 100% cotton from Moda, which is marketed in many independent fabric stores as part of the Bella solid series. It is lightweight combed cotton broadcloth with an extremely soft hand and is perfect for quilting and sewing.
