Gladinet – use cloud storage locally

gladinet

There is no shortage of online storage around the internets. Yeah it’s a great idea and you can access it anywhere, upload, download etc, but it’s browser-based and kinda clunky. Until now.

Gladinet is an online storage aggregator, it allows you to use some of the most popular online storage services through your PC and mount them as virtual drives and everything is controlled through the Gladinet client (PC only). You’ll need to create accounts with Google Picasa, Skydrive or Amazon S3 to use Gladinet, but once you install Gladinet and log in, you won’t need a password to work. You can also use online applications like Gmail, Google Docs and Zoho Office all from the Gladinet interface.

What’s more, because Gladinet functions essentially as a giant VPN, there are some bonus features as well. All your PCs that are running Gladinet can see each other and you can share files as well as being able to use remote access apps like VNC or Remote Desktop.

Hook up Gladinet with your netbook and mobile broadband you’ll be all set to not be in the office. Lifehacker has done an in-depth review here, but keep in mind Gladinet is still in beta.

Gladinet software creates a virtual drive on your Windows desktop. From this virtual drive, you can access your online storages as if they were local folders. You can also access folders from multiple PCs. Gladinet Cloud Desktop integrates Microsoft SkyDrive, Amazon Simple Storage Service(S3) and other online storages. You can use these online storages as local folders. In the future, more online storages will be available.
