The Panasonic solid state camcorder uses PCMCIA (aka PC Cards) instead of tape for recording.

It holds five 4GB cards to give a total of 72 minutes recording, and the camcorder fills one card before moving on to record on the next. No news yet as to whether you can hot swop cards to give continuous shooting. No word on price either! [via slashdot]

I agree with the article’s reporter who feels that this is a revolution. Say goodbye to tape within 10 years folks!
