The Izona Cool Drawer is a hide-away refrigerator that lives under the kitchen bench. It has a selection of 5 different temperature ranges; Freezer, Chill, Fridge, Pantry and Wine Storage and they’re all selectable by just pressing a button on the door. The unit is completely self contained, it doesn’t need a separate compressor or any utility except mains power and installs easily under the bench.
The insides are configurable with an area for tall things, a small drawer on top and a main storage area for everything else. It’s versatile enough that you can have one Cool Drawer for frozen things, one for everyday cold items and another for dry goods and fruit. What’s more you can put one anywhere in the house, in the kids room for fruit and drinks, in the dining room for wine or the lounge room for TV goodies. Food has never been this close and still in the fridge. I can’t find a price and I’ve no idea if they’re available outside of Australia and New Zealand but they sure look nice.
The world of refrigeration is about to undergo a change of massive proportion. Soon, gone will be the days when a large steel box with only one or two temperatures dominated one side of your kitchen and anchored the work triangle between the sink, cooktop and refrigerator.

Is it economical or envionmental, though? It seems like a chest of freezer-draws would be better than one-off draws scattered around the house, with the accompanied need for cooling, etc.
Not sure Simon, but I guess you could look at it by saying you only switch some of them on when you need them (i.e. drink fridges or for entertaining). Also, when you open a normal fridge, you lose a lot of the cold air. With these drawers, the air can't pour out.
