Rogueware via Twitter – more reasons to be careful where you click

Image

The boffins over at Panda Labs are tracking a nasty new trend emerging through Twitter, rogueware being delivered through breaking news. Using zombie Twitter accounts, the cyber-crims are spamming currently emerging Twitter topics with links to malware downloading sites. The tweets just blend in with the growing wave of genuine tweets and people exploring can be redirected goodness-knows-where. Be careful people, it’s a jungle out there.

The emergence of this type of threat distribution method demonstrates how cyber criminals are adjusting and evolving to the newer services offered on the Internet. It’s especially dangerous with sites like Twitter, which offer up to the second updates (or live tweets) of events as they unfold in real time.
