Hmm, am I the only one to notice that buried amongst the flotsam & jetsam of Dell’s dominance of the PC market is the fact that they no longer appear to include floppy disk drives on their desktop PCs?
I’m usually cautious about forecasting things in this crazy market, but this sure looks like the end of the line for the humble floppy. Sniff, we’ll miss ya little fella. I remember when my first ‘desktop’ PC had twin Shugart 8 inch floppy drives as standard.
I also remember the furore caused by the switchover from 5.25″ to 3.5″ drives. Woo, how we argued and argued at the computer company I worked at then about the right time to switch, and whether to include both drives over the transition period. Sniff! You served us well, faithful little Bernoulli powered gizmo. Sleep well.
