PDF Pirate looks to us like trouble brewing a-plenty. What does it do? Well apparently it removes all protection from PDF files. We haven’t tried it because we’re good boys and girls, but we’re sure that someone will spend time on there. Probably some Adobe lawyers.

You don't need it. Just print to XPS document, then open that document and save it as a PDF. Works every time, all text/objects maintained.
No good if the pdf has printing restrictions.
I'm using it, but for good. We lost the passwords for our manuals and this has been a godsend.
