Drawdio – drawing with sound

Image

Drawdio turns drawings into sound. Using a simple synthesiser and speaker attached to a soft lead pencil, the Drawdio turns any drawing into an electrical circuit. Just touch one end of the drawing with one hand and as you draw the pitch of the sound changes. It’s much more fun than my description so check out some videos. If you want to try it yourself, Adafruit has a kit for US$17.50.

Imagine you could draw musical instruments on normal paper with any pencil (cheap circuit thumb-tacked on) and then play them with your finger. The Drawdio circuit-craft lets you MacGuyver your everyday objects into musical instruments: paintbrushes, macaroni, trees, grandpa, even the kitchen sink…
