Magic Clock – Beats leaving a note on the fridge

Image

Turns out there is no magic, just Twitter and technology. The father of two very ardent Harry Potter fans decided to show them technology was king by making this Magic Clock. The clock works by reading Twitter feeds and searching for clues as to where they are and displaying them on the face. I wonder how long it will take for the kids being in “Mortal Peril” to get old.

Inside the clock is an Arduino processor and a mini wireless router so it’s completely self contained, all it needs is a wifi network. So I guess the Marauder’s Map was just a CrunchPad? Oh wait … [Via Make]

One night over dinner, I started teasing my kids that while magic is pretty cool, science and engineering are a lot cooler…because they actually work. Out of that discussion, and to prove a point, I decided to build a ‘Magic’ clock that actually works. Like the Weasley’s Whereabouts clock from the Harry Potter books, this clock tells the location of each family member by pointing an individuals hand to their “whereabouts” time.

  • Note to the designer: Put images on weighed, rotating discs, so they're always upright…
