Cacoo – create diagrams the gorgeous way

Cacoo

Cacoo may have an unfortunate sounding name, but the service itself comes over as beautiful, polished and sincere. Sure it’s yet another diagram drawing tool thingy, but it’s done with style and craftsmanship. The Japanese designed app offers multi-user collaboration as well as team annotation and easy ‘live’ embedding in blogs, web pages and applications.

A good part of the allure comes from the use of lovely looking icons and components, which is guaranteed to make any layout look good, but there’s clearly also a lot of thought been put into the UI and the way it all rubs together.

The loading of element palettes is a tad slow for my liking, but I’m assuming this is due to early code or startup hosting issues, which should improve over time. Upshot, this is one very fine application, and definitely worth a serious bookmark.

  • Maybe a review of http://www.diagram.ly when the real-time collaboration goes live. All features are free (and will stay that way), it's not flash and it's the only diagramming tool of the bunch online currently that does Visio import.

  • Actually another online diagramming tool reviewed a while ago on RedFerret has Visio import – lucidchart (sp?). I signed up when it was reviewed and got the newsletter about it a while back.
