McAfee Stinger – cool freeware removes those fake alert malware attacks

McAfee Stinger is a small freeware utility which is designed to remove all those nasty little ‘fake alert’ malware attacks. You know, those ‘YOU HAVE BEEN INFECTED…’ type attacks which then try to sell you dodgy anti-virus stuff. Or rip you off. Or both. It’s simple, clean and comes with a good pedigree, so that makes it a definite download for the toolbox.

Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.
