RUBBISH – it’s not what you think!

tires

Old used up tires are finding new life as a number of things – art, garden bedding and roadway paving. But a company called Minarc has transformed them into elegant sinks.

RUBBISH 2

RUBBISH is a classy-looking sink made from recycled rubber tires. Thr tires are melted down and stripped of particulates and impurities, then stretched into a lightweight layer to cover a sub-material for the sink’s surface. Consumers can choose from a 1/8 inch sheet of rubber or get a RUBBiSH frame where the rubber sheet’s placed between two aluminum sheets at the edge of the countertop. It’s then held in place by the drain collar.

So let’s get all those tires off the roads, out of junkyards and turn them into kitchen and bathroom sinks! It seems like a great way to live with the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).
