OK, so this Russian dude – Dr Vladimir Skulachev – also known as a ‘bioenergetics professor, has come up with an ‘age-defying’ medicine which we will one day be able to take in pill form to stop ourselves getting old.

Sound good to you? Well it’s apparently all based on his ‘anti-oxidant’ biological theory, so we’ll have to wait and see if this is the greatest thing to happen to mankind since ABBA or not. Before you snort cynically into your coffee and move on, consider these facts:

1. The guy’s been working on it for 40 years.

2. Some Nobel Prize winner seems to think the idea has some merit.

3. Clinical trials have just begun.

4. The good doctor used his medicine to cure his cataracts.

Now I don’t know about you peeps, but the idea of prolonging our lifespans willy-nilly, with all the attendant over-crowding, resource stripping, power broking and inevitable war mongering seems like a Pretty Bad Idea, but let’s see how it pans out.
