but is it art? posted by

Matt Lamp brings a little chaos to your lighting

Yesterday we showed you an interesting table that is sure to add a bit of intrigue to your living room. Perhaps now you want some lighting that will bring a similar amount of interest. If that’s the case, then you might want to have a look at this Matt Lamp.

This lighting fixture is one that will no doubt stand out from the crowd. Rather than being made of a rigid material that maintains its shape, the Matt Lamp appears to be more of a cord than anything. The cord itself is wrapped in Angora Wool, which comes in 4 different colors. You can loop it from the ceiling into whatever strange shape you desire. As for the bulb, it is a silicone-covered energy-saving bulb that is cool to the touch (so no worries of the wool covering catching fire).

Much like the Float Table from yesterday, this is more of an art piece than anything. However, unlike that product, this $400 light looks like it could be easily made at home for a fraction of the price. A nice long extension cord and a similarly cool-to-the-touch bulb is all you’ll need. That, and someone to knit a covering for the whole thing.
