Nokia Bike Kit charges your phone with pedal power

If you spend a lot of time on your bike, you might want to consider putting some of that effort you’re expending to good use. Not that getting yourself from point A to B without needing to use a gasoline-powered vehicle isn’t a good use. But now you can also charge your Nokia phone while cruising the city streets.

Now pedal-powered charging devices might not be a new concept, but Nokia seems to have implemented the idea rather well with their DC-14 Bike Charger. Take, for instance, the fact that as long as you’re sustaining a speed of 8.7mph or more, you’ll actually be charging the phone at the same rate as if it were plugged into a wall socket. The charging unit is weather-resistant, so you won’t need to worry about it getting wet. Though you might not want to actually charge your phone in the rain. The phone itself will be strapped down and secured to your phone with some handy straps. The device is currently on sale for around $40 in the UK. No word on a US release.
