Converting media files can be a pain in the rear sometimes. First you have to figure out what specific format it needs to be in, then hunt down the appropriate software, which will sometimes require a purchase. If you’re looking for a handy little program that can quickly convert audio and video files to a few of the more common formats, you might be interested in Media Converter.

This is by far the most simple converter I’ve ever used. Just open it up, select the format, then drag the video file into the window. In a few minutes, you’ll have a new file that suits your needs. Granted, it only converts to a few file types like H.264, DivX and MP3, but if that’s all you need, then this free piece of software will do the trick. Sadly, it does only work on OSX.
