CapTel phone translates speech to text

Having perfect hearing is something that most of us take for granted. After all, most of our conversations happen either face-to-face, or over the phone. If you have trouble hearing, you probably dread taking phone calls, as they aren’t exactly crystal-clear to begin with. Wouldn’t it be great if you could have the calls translated almost instantly, and have the words appear on a screen? You can, with the CapTel 800i.

This phone is a rather unique device. When you make a call, the entire conversation is routed through a free third-party service, which uses speech-to-text translating. The translations are then sent to your phone, via your home internet service, and displayed on the screen. It’s only slightly more complicated when someone else calls you. They first have to call the toll-free captioning service first, then enter your phone number. This is to ensure that their words are getting translated for you. The phone is a bit pricey, at $99. However, since the translation service is completely free, this sounds like a pretty good deal for someone who has difficulty hearing phone conversations.
