There are a lot of ways to ruin your phone. One of the easiest is allowing it to come into contact with water. It’s amazing what a small amount of liquid can do to a piece of electronic equipment. But what if you could make your phone virtually waterproof? A company by the name of Liquipel specializes in doing just that.

The process used is rather interesting, as it is applied in the form of a vapor, so as to penetrate the entire device, inside and out. You’re left with a phone that looks and feels just like it did originally. What’s different is that water simply rolls off of it. This goes for the inside, as well. Of course, you’ll still want to take care of your phone if you do happen to submerge it in water. Powering it off and letting it dry for a good long while is still advisable, just in case. As you can see in the video below, they were able to completely submerge an iPhone 4, while it was on, and it continued to work, even under water. The process requires you to send in your phone, which could be a deal breaker for some people. The standard treatment will set you back $59, while you can get a special scratch-resistant film applied (in addition to the Liquipel treatment) for $79. If you don’t mind being without your phone for a few days, it might be worthwhile to give this a shot.
