The FitDesk Pro lets you work, exercise and profit all at the same time

Who’s got time to fit it all in? The health regimes, the work routines, the family chores, the playtime outdoors? There’s just not enough hours in the day right? And it’s getting worse, not better, which is why businessman Steve Ferusi came up with an idea he thinks solves several of our time problems in one stroke.

The FitDesk Pro is a bolt-on accessory which is designed to fit onto an ordinary bicycle, which you can then use indoors as a trainer along with your laptop. The clever bits are the elbow rests which mean you can peddle away while computing (or reading) in comfort, thus getting a double whammy in one session.

You can work, play games, browse the web or do whatever you like while you’re treading the pedals, and at the end of the session you’ll have done yourself some physical benefit as well as the computing part. The device is priced at a a very reasonable $79.95, although you’ll need to supply the bike and a trainer rig for indoor use, of course. The company also sells a complete bike and ‘desk’ kit for $229.99. Go on, get fit, do yourself a favor.

  • Mental alertness is at a low when you are doing vigorous exercise. I think it is because your brain is not getting as much oxygen as it needs to think clearly. This is a fail.

    • Does it have to be vigorous?

  • You could also put a toilet under his backside, so that he could relieve himself without stopping the other activities.

  • I ride my bike to escape from the world: electronic & work & home. Fail.

  • Research has shown that vigorous exercise does not reduce cognitive function.

Also, vigorous exercise does not reduce oxygen delivery to the brain. The blood has enormous capacity to carry oxygen. The reason you breath hard when you exercise is to remove CO2 from the body.

This is a clever idea, but I would not use it because the posture seems very un-natural.

  • If you haven't tried it you wouldn't know that the posture is a very comfortable position. Even if you my not do it vigorously you are still moving. Don't knock it until you'v tried it.

  • I got a standard FitDesk model in January. It is nice overall, but there are a couple of minor issues. I recently did a review of it here http://projectargyle.com/?p=62
If I already had a bike I would have gone with the Pro :/
