GO Launcher EX completely customises the look and feel of your Android phone [Freeware]

One of the most powerful features of the Android operating system, which many people don’t know, is the fact that you’re not restricted to the user interface that your mobile provider embeds on your handset. Unlike certain other systems…cough…iOS…cough… Android gives you the flexibility to tweak and customise everything from the Home screen to the icons and beyond.

Ultimately, of course, you can do away with the stock system and replace it completely with a new version of your choosing, like the brilliant CyanogenMod system which is so popular at the moment.

However for those with more modest ambitions, the new GO Launcher EX may be a better fit. It’s a free replacement for the standard Android theme you get on the phone as default. What makes the application most appealing is the fact that you can download a huge number of optional themes, some free and some commercial, which cover the range from cute to macho techno.

As well as general themes, you can pick and choose from a massive collection of ad hoc icons to add to your screens, as well as cool widgets and lock screens. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s around 4 full screens of settings you can tweak, covering everything from animations to icon size, to get the exact look and feel you want. It’s a masterful piece of programming and works brilliantly. Just install, select the theme as your default and get to work customising.

Definitely worth a download if you’re bored with your existing phone and want a makeover with style.
