The race seems to be on to reduce the power footprint of our computer peripherals, and nowhere more than in the area of input devices. We’ve already got wireless keyboards and mice which can last for years on a single battery, and now there’s a new challenger in the shape of a solar powered mouse. Not only is it a cute idea, but it could be the way of the future in general if the tech works as advertised.
The Bondidea Solar Wireless Mouse actually offers a dual power source, batteries or solar charging. It uses a single AAA cell on battery mode and also offers high resolution mousing at a maximum of 1600 DPI, using a high spec laser. Bear in mind that high resolution can mean jittery mousing for normal work, so you may want to reduce the level when not needed.
Apart from that it has all the usual buttons and wheels and features a tiny wireless dongle for attaching to the computer. Compatible with Mac, Linux and PC and available for $36.00. Will it save the planet? Possibly.
Wouldn't your hand cover the solar panel while you use it? Making the whole point useless.
Good point. Although the solar panel charging will likely take place over a much longer period than your direct mousing time perhaps?
Agree. My mistake. I totally just glanced over the word charging when I was reading about dual power source.
No worries. :)
