When you think of a bicycle, the metal frame, spokes, and rubber tires come to mind. The only time you might find a different material for a bike would likely be a durable plastic, but even then, you might doubt its durability. If plastic makes you raise an eyebrow, how about a bike made out of cardboard?
The Cardboard Bicycle Project is hoping to try and save the environment, by making some awesomely inexpensive modes of transportation. These bikes were the result of months of experimenting with cardboard, and trying to do what others said was impossible. The finished product only costs about $9 for the manufacturer to make, but they will probably charge consumers $60-90. If you’re worried about where and when you can ride it, don’t be too concerned, as it can withstand water and humidity thanks to its strong layer of brown and white material. There is a limit to its strength, as it can only handle up to about 220 pounds for the rider.
The website for the bike says the weight capacity is 220 kilograms, not pounds, which is more than double what you've reported. This sounds like a very exciting project!
