The DIY Drones site features a great little community of radio control aircraft enthusiasts (or UAVs as they’re known), who are happy to help anyone build and fly their very own drone, just like the governmint agencies, but without all that security and scary arresting people angst.
There’s something fascinating about flight, whether it’s wing-suits, microlights or UAVs with cameras on them, it symbolizes something to do with freedom we guess. So it’s nice to see a bunch of people willing to help others in this way. Here’s a cool Vimeo clip of a multicopter in action at this year’s Burning Man.
It’s not exactly a poor man’s hobby unfortunately, so to do it properly you’re going to expect to cough up $800 and more, but once you’re in the air with one, you’ll be able to better appreciate why you sacrificed your first born’s education for your passion.
