Motorol Talkabout almost makes your mobile phone seem inadequate

If you like to go camping with friends, but want to go off hiking on your own, you’ll want to keep some form of communication going on. Phones are somewhat useless out in the wilderness because they never have a good signal. If you’re packing a touchscreen mobile, then you know that those things are not made for off-road adventures unless you want them destroyed. You’ll probably want something more along the lines of a walkie talkie, but those aren’t always the best for distances longer than a mile or two.

However, the Motorola Talkabout MT350R will make sure you can talk no matter how far you wander off. This radio has a range of up to 35 miles, and can withstand water and dust. It charges via mini USB, but if you’re low on time, you can plop in some standard alkaline batteries. This set of two will cost you somewhere around $70, and will either save your life in a moment of need or save you from boredom on a long hike.
