There’s a load of great content around the globe, but a lot of it is locked behind geographic firewalls meaning you can’t watch or listen to it unless you live in the country. Are you listening the USA and the BBC? The common solution is to install VPN or proxy software, or a tool like UnoTelly. Now however there’s a new tool which aims to make it mind-meltingly easy to access US content from anywhere. And for free.
MediaHint is a simple web browser add-on which installs in seconds and thereafter gives you unfettered access to television, radio and other restricted content as though you were based in the US. The program is impressive in its simplicity, although patchy in performance. We found it worked perfectly to access Hulu.com content from outside the USA, but failed dismally with TheDailyShow.com. Mind you, Jon Stewart has some real Rottweillers on his case and routinely defeats a bunch of proxy tools.
Bearing in mind the low low price of this software we’ve got to say it’s probably worth installing if you have a need to listen to Pandora, Last.FM or Hulu, but just don’t expect miracles with every site or service you try.
