NESCO SnackMaster Express Food Dehydrator – make your own snacks at home

Show me someone who doesn’t like snacks, and I’ll show you someone without a pulse. Crunchy, chewy, flavorsome, there’s a snack fiend inside everyone, and that doesn’t mean your health has to suffer either. Some of the tastiest morsels are made from dried fruit and vegetables, which store well and are much better for you than chips and chocs. The only problem is it can get expensive if you’re hooked, unless you have your own source of home made snack goodies.

This NESCO SnackMaster Express Food Dehydrator comes with all the bits you need to make and enjoy tasty healthy dried foodstuffs. You can dry fruit like bananas, apples, oranges and other tidbits, and dried peppers are great as a relish. There’s even a Jerky gun to let you create meat jerky in a few hours.

The kit works by pushing air over the top of the food for several hours until it’s dried out completely. The average recipe calls for around 12 hours running time, so it’s an overnight task for most things. You can also use it to make dried biscuits and other pet treats, which should save a bit of cash down the store.

The whole kit, including five trays, jerky gun, fruit roll sheet and a herb drying screen costs $64.99. Here’s a useful video for the FD-60 model which gives a good idea of how it all works.
