Eye Trainer – your own personal eye doctor on your phone [Freeware]

If you’re like us, you spend a fair amount of time looking at a computer screen every day, which funnily enough is not the optimum situation to be in. You know what they say, if God had meant us to stare at computers all day, we would have been born with Aeron chairs strapped to our rear. Ahem…anyway moving swiftly on…

Eye Trainer is a free Android smartphone app which comes with 12 exercises to help relax and rejuvenate tired eyes. Like many of these apps, we feel that much of the benefit comes from taking regular breaks (you can set auto alarms) rather than the actual exercises, but there’s no doubt that it can help to change focus every now and then, and the software provides a structured method of doing this properly.

The training consists of voice prompts to do repetitive actions or exercises, such as near and far focusing and other things to give your eyes some respite. We particularly enjoyed the advertising break in the middle which is designed as a relaxing period in between exercises. Nice idea developer people!

Does it help? Well it may be placebo, but we think it did, and at the very least as we said before, it stopped us staring at this monitor. And hey, it’s free right? Try it, and maybe let us know in the comments if it helps you?
