LogoGrab – forget about barcodes, get coupons, special offers and more just by scanning a logo [Freeware]

Wouldn’t it be great if you could use your smartphone camera to grab special offers, coupons and giveaways just by snapping an image of your favorite brand’s logo? No messing around with barcodes, QR codes or any other complex technology, just point and win. Well a new technology promises to deliver just that kind of experience, and what’s more any company, big or small, can take part.

The new free LogoGrab phone app aims to let any company, not just the big brands, set up their own marketing and coupon service using their very own logo. And it’s beautifully easy to use.

The idea is really quite simple. Instead of scanning a barcode, customers just point their smartphone camera at the logo they’re interested in, and the app will grab the image and instantly deliver a list of available offers, coupons and information from that company. There’s no complicated process to go through, everything happens immediately with one click, and the interface is deliberately designed to be clean and simple.

The coolest part however is the fact that any company can upload their own logo and use the service for free. The process is really easy, all you need to do is upload the image file, add some links and social networks buttons and you’re set. The clever part is you can also add web links to special offers, coupons, competitions and more which is a great way to spread your message to potential buyers.

If the technology takes off we could see this eventually becoming a very powerful way for brands to interact with their customers, because there’s almost no barrier to cross. If you’ve got a phone with a camera, and you can recognize your favorite logos, that’s all you need. Cinch.

The software is quite early in development at the moment, which shows in the few glitches we had getting logos recognized with the camera but we’re assuming those are teething problems with the code. You can test the app scanning out here, and by the time you read this you may be able to scan the Ferret logo at the top of the page and also get it working, we’re in the approval queue.

We like the idea, and since it’s available for both Android and iPhone, it could take off quite quickly once word gets around. Of course it will also need for a lot of the major brands to jump on board, but we’re not seeing a reason why they wouldn’t, although it may take time. Definitely one to watch!

  • Interesting tech! I’m wondering whether one could geo-fence the results to geo-located content..

    • Coming out this fall… :-)
