Ever feel like the recipient of unwanted attention as co-workers, family members, and people you don’t even know hover around your personal space, looking intently at what you’re doing on the computer? Want to mess with their heads as they stare at a field of white while you type merrily away? You can, and it’s fairly easy to do.
You don’t have to be a computer tech for this DIY project that lets you create a computer screen that only you can see, but you will have to overcome any fears about taking tools to hardware. The #1 best way to overcome that fear is to reduce the risk of messing up something important so you might want to grab a cheapie computer monitor at a pawn shop or something.
The video below gives you a fast-paced look at what needs to be done but it’s pretty straight-forward so you’ll be able to mess with peoples heads in no time.
- Open up the monitor
- Strip out the polarizing filter on the screen. The filter will be trash so removal doesn’t have to be pretty, although you want to be careful to not damage the screen itself.
- Grab a pair of 3D glasses, pop out the 3D filters.
- Trace the size of the lens openings on a new sheet of polarizing filter. Before you do this, hold the sheet up to the computer screen and rotate it until you see an image on the screen. Keep that angle in mind when you draw the openings.
- Cut the designs out and fix your new custom-fit polarizing filters into the glasses.
That’s it. Now everyone else will think you’ve lost your mind as you stare intently at a white screen of nothing, while your special glasses let you see what’s really going on.
