We’re always on the hunt for small, fast loading browsers, because sometimes life’s too short to wait around for a bloated load time when all you want to do is check up an address or telephone number before you dash out the door.
Light is a new free open source fork of the venerable Firefox web browser, which cuts out the fluff to deliver a small, and very speedy browser for just those occasions. We’ve been using it for a few days now, and so far we’ve not found anything it can’t do, although we haven’t tried loading any heavyweight plugins.
We’re not really able to confirm just how much faster the browser loads, but suffice to say we’re now using it on a daily basis, with no tabs loaded so we can get going in a second or two instead of waiting for our default Firefox (with typically 15 tabs open) to fire up.
We tested the file against Virustotal.com and it comes up clean, and it’s available in both 32 and 64 bit versions, so off you go. You can find the actual downloads here. Enjoy!
