The dreaded blind spot. Not even cars are safe from being rendered temporarily invisible when positioned in this hazardous position but at least a person in a car is surrounded by a metal shell. Bicycle riders are way more vulnerable, which is why it’s smart to let this little laser dude ride ahead of you so drivers in the other lane will know you’re coming.
79% of cycle accidents occur when the bicycle is travelling straight ahead and a vehicle maneuvers into them. There’s a cheery little thought as you prepare to hop on your bike. Fortunately, the designer of the Blaze Laserlight is hoping to drag that number down by improving the chances of others seeing you on the road.
Blaze mounts easily to your bicycle handlebars, and the bright white LED bicycle light cranks out 300lm in its brightest mode, but you can get a headlight anywhere. What sets Blaze apart is the green laser light that projects an image of a person on a bicycle up to 5 meters/16 feet in front of the bicycle, providing a great visual for drivers in cars and trucks to see when they glance to the side. Even if you happen to be riding in the dreaded blind spot, the little green bicycle dude will let the person behind the wheel know you’re there.
The laserlight is rechargeable via any USB power source for up to 13 hours, and the controls are designed to be easy to use even if you’re wearing gloves.
The Blaze Laserlight will be available March 2014 but it can be preordered now for $200/£125, and you wont be charged until it ships.
