eBay Hire – auction giant diversifies into providing services…good idea, AAAAAA+++, would use again

Well the world of consuming things may be grinding to a halt, but it’s all go in the services arena. Just take a look at all the web services which aim to help you make money, save time or learn how to do either.

It’s hardly surprising then when the big boys take notice, as eBay has done with the launch of its new Ebay Hire service. The idea is for anyone to register their service with the company, after which they will promote your services alongside eBay auction details for relevant categories.

So, for example, if you are a piano teacher in Seattle, your service will be promoted to anyone buying a piano, or associated product in that area. Sounds logical doesn’t it? The service will be free to start, after which eBay will charge you typical listing type fees as with auctions. Plus of course the Paypal cash grab on every transaction.

It’s one of those ideas that could actually take off in a big way, but as with everything there’s no guarantees.
